Jump to RecipeThe Origins of the Lobster Roll
I looked up the history of the lobster roll. As expected, it is rooted in the northeastern United States, particularly in Connecticut and Maine. The first documented lobster roll is said to have been created in the 1920s at Perry’s, a small restaurant in Milford, Connecticut. Unlike the chilled, mayonnaise-based Maine-style version, Perry’s served a hot, buttered lobster roll. Over time, the dish evolved into the cold, creamy version that is now a staple of Maine’s food culture. Today, both variations are beloved by seafood enthusiasts across the country.

A Personal Journey: Bar Harbor Memories
Before my wife and I were married, we took a memorable trip to Bar Harbor, Maine. A place with beautiful ocean scenery and a ton of fresh seafood. We spent an entire day indulging in lobster rolls, stopping at roadside shacks and seaside cafes, each offering their own take on this iconic dish. With every bite, we got hooked on these sandwiches. That trip remains one of our favorite memories, a reminder of how food can a memory and a connection to the places we love.
Crafting the Perfect Lobster Roll
What makes a lobster roll truly exceptional? For me, it starts with the freshest lobster meat, lightly dressed in homemade mayo to enhance its natural sweetness. A dash of Old Bay seasoning brings a touch of warmth and depth, while a perfectly toasted, buttery split-top bun provides the ideal vessel.
