Melopita
My wife and I were having a dinner party. In our world, that means everyone participates in the cooking. Our theme was Greek food. In the next week or two, you will see a Greek orzo recipe, some Greek dips and some Greek lamb. It was so good. Everyone contributed to an awesome meal and that is so much more fun. I should also say the company was awesome. These are great and special friends of ours. It is easier to go out for a dinner but it is so much more personal, so much more laid back and so much easier to talk one another. A dinner party is such a good way to connect with friends and bringing people into your house really deepens the friendship.
I did not have a lot of ideas for a Greek dessert and I am not a fan of nuts. I googled Greek desserts and came up with this Melopita. So cool. It is baked ricotta topped with honey. Now this may not be chocolate but it is sweet. Did I say this was easy? I hesitate to post this Melopita because of its simplicity. Please do not tell anyone.
Melópita (adapted from Cook Me Greek):
- 32 ounces ricotta
- 5 – 6 tbsp honey
- 3 eggs
- 1Tbsp corn flour
- ½ tsp salt
- vanilla or lemon zest for flavor
- Cinnamon for topping
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. In a bowl, add in all ingredients
and whisk until completely incorporated.
Spray a baking dish with canola spray. Pour the Melópita batter into the baking dish.
Bake for 40 minutes or until golden.
Let the Melópita cool. Turn the Melopita over on to a serving plate.
You can serve cold from the fridge or at room temperature. (I served cold.) Before serving, dust generously with cinnamon and finish by drizzling with as much honey as you like.
Serve and enjoy!
Nicole
How much ricotta? They have a small and large size.
Looking forward to trying this!

Well, as a first generation Greek only real dinner parties have Greek food 😉 I love the step by step way you showed your readers how to make the melopita. It’s always great for those not familiar with a recipe! Melopita was never a favorite of mine, I’m super weird with my textures, but my mom loves it and made it all the time! Yours looks beautiful!

There is nothing wrong with an easy recipe, especially when it looks so good! I have never had Melopita. It reminds me of flan though. Looking forward to seeing the whole menu!
Peter Block
You are right. Had a very similar texture to a flan.

There is so much I agree with you on this post! I also love to host dinner parties (and I’d do it more often with a cleaner house!) and these simple desserts are great when I’m preparing more complex entreé courses. Thanks again for all your assistance this past weekend and it was a pleasure meeting you!
Peter Block
Glad you like the dessert. So great to meet you and I look forward to getting to know each other and our work better.

I normally like real sweet and chocolate but this recipe is a winner. Let me know if you try it?
