The burger might be one of the most adaptable menu items in the world.  It can be made with beef, turkey, lamb and so much more.  My regular readers know of my love for Mexican food.  So why not take a Mexican spin on this burger?  This burger also uses ground turkey so the fat content of this burger is reasonable.  The other trick I used to amp up the flavor was to sauté the vegetables first in Mexican spices, and then, add them to the burger meat.  To finish this Mexican Turkey Burger off correctly, you need to make sure you choose a complimentary cheese for the topping.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 1/4 green pepper, diced
- 1/4 yellow onion, diced
- 1 tbsp canola oil
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp each annotto and Mexican Chili powder, divided
- 1/4 avocado
- 1 bun
- 1 slice mozzarella
Directions:
In a sauté pan, heat the oil on medium heat.  Add in the onions and peppers as well as a tbsp of both the annotto and Mexican chili powder.  Saute the vegetables for 2 – 3 minutes.  You want the vegetables to hold their firmness.
Remove from the heat and set aside. Â Meanwhile, in a bowl, add the ground turkey, the rest of the spices, ketchup and mix well.
Form into 4 patties. Â Heat your outdoor grill on a medium high heat. Â Add the burgers to the grill.
Grill approximately 5 minutes on the first side. Â Flip to the second side and after about 4 minutes, add the cheese. Â Should take 1 minute or so to get a good melt. Â At the same time the cheese is added, place the bun on the grill to crisp up the bun. Â To finish assembling the burger, top with the avocado slices.
Serve and enjoy!

This is my kind of burger too. Plus I have a beef intolerant person in my immediate family. So this really really works. You really make a whopper of a burger, guy!

thx carol. ground turkey really can take on flavors better than beef. My wife only eats turkey burgers too.
