So What do you do with those leftovers in the fridge? When it is the weekend, it is the perfect time to throw whatever you have on to really good bread and grill it. I so love sandwiches and it has been quite a while since I posted a sandwich recipe. My favorite type of sandwich is a panini. I love the grilled bread and the melting cheese. The grilled bread is just a vehicle for everything inside. There are so many ingredients that can be combined with the bread and the cheese. In this case, I included two types of meat to make this Roast Beef Turkey Panini.
But where did the panini originate? Well, I did some research. The panini comes from the Italian word panino, derived from pane which is bread. That makes sense. The actual Italian word for sandwich is panino imbottito – which translates to stuffed bread. I get it. Panino is actually the plural of panini – 2 sliced of bread. It is all coming into focus now.
But this is to dictionary like. I love a panini because the bread gets so crusty. The cheese is so melty. What is not to like. Then, you add flavors that add depth to the sandwich. This sandwich can be totally vegetarian or filled with meat. I have gone back to look and see some of the different paninis I have made. I hope you like these ideas too.
