There is something so comforting about a grilled cheese sandwich. But how does one elevate the grilled cheese. You grill both sides of the bread and add a second layer of cheese à la the French fromage. There is technique here as well. Grilling both sides of the bread makes the bread firmer. Next, you top the grilled bread with the cheese and melt the cheese in the oven. After the sandwich is pulled out of the oven, the turkey is added so it stays cold. Finally, the coup de tat, is another layer of shredded cheese is added to the top of the sandwich and put under the broiler. Now, you have created the ultimate grilled cheese sandwich.
Ingredients:
- 2 pieces french bread
- 3 pieces Havarti cheese
- 3 slices roasted turkey
- 1/8 – 1/4 cup of smoked shredded cheese
- 1 tbsp butter
Directions:
Melt the butter in a skillet on medium high heat. Add the bread and grill both sides until toasted and remove from the pan.
Place the bread on a baking sheet (open-faced) and add the Havarti cheese to the bread. Put in a 350 degree oven and bake for 2 – 3 minutes until the cheese melts.
Take out melted cheese sandwiches and add-on the turkey.
Close the sandwich and top with the shredded smoked mozzarella cheese. Reset the oven to a low broil. Put the baking sheet back into your oven on the top rack and broil for maybe 2 minutes.
You want to get a melt but not a total melt. Enjoy!
